Ingredients
- 4 cups milk (preferably whole or 2%)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions

In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar.

Heat the mixture over medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until the liquid is warm but do not let it boil.

Add the chocolate chips. Whisk constantly until the chocolate chips are completely melted and evenly distributed into the milk, creating a smooth, rich hot chocolate.

Remove from heat, whisk in the vanilla extract, and serve immediately.
Notes
Two Servings:
- 2 cups milk
- 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- 1/8 tsp vanilla
One Serving:
- 1 cup milk
- 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp chocolate chips
- 1-2 drops vanilla
Options:
- Feel free to add in other flavored extracts such as mint, orange, raspberry.
- We added in some of our homemade toasted marshmallow syrups & loved it as well!
- Top with whipped cream & a bit of cinnamon.
- My wife loves it with milk chocolate instead of bittersweet or semi-sweet.
