Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 3 springs basil + 2 whole leaves
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare Ingredients: Chop onion, garlic, and basil.

  • Sauté Onions and Garlic: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, stirring to combine. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.

  • Cook with Tomatoes: Uncover the skillet and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the onion is translucent, softened, and fragrant (about 5 minutes more). Add crushed tomatoes and 2 whole basil leaves. Stir and bring to a simmer.

  • Simmer and Garnish: Simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the whole basil leaves. Garnish with chopped fresh basil.
