Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks of butter
- 3 (10oz) bags mini marshmallows
- 1 tsp vanilla
- pinch of salt
- 1/3 c cinnamon sugar
- 1 can dulce de leche
- 10 cups crispy rice cereal
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 pan with cooking spray & set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 of the 3 packages of marshmallows with your 10 cups of rice krispies. Set aside.
- In a large, heavy bottomed pot, melt you butter over medium heat.
- Stir it gently as it melts. It will begin to foam and sizzle and then you will see little brown fleck forming on the bottom of the pan. As soon as you see those flecks, remove the pan from the heat.
- Once the butter is browned, turn off your heat* and add in 2 bags of mini marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. (*Once your heat is turned off – you have a limited time to finish as it begins to cool – it is harder to make these treats! So work quickly from here on.)
- Add in your vanilla, salt and cinnamon sugar. Stir until combined.
- Pour the marshmallow mixture over your bowl with the rice krispies and marshmallows. Stir to combine it all – being sure you get all the way to the bottom of the bowl, again – working quickly!
- Pour half of this mixture into your greased baking dish. Carefully pressing them into the pan.
- Spread the dulce de leche all over the rice krispies in an even layer.
- Top with the rest of the rice krispies mixture and lightly press it around until it is evenly spread into the pan. Let it set at room temperature until cooled.
Notes
- We have found that spraying our hands with cooking spray & then carefully using our hands to press down the cereal works well.
- Another option: leave our the dulce de leche and enjoy browned butter rice krispie treats!
- Or take out the dulce de leche and use just melted butter and have normal rice krispie treats. So many options!
