Homemade Chocolate Fudge

And nothing screams holiday comfort quite like a square of smooth, rich, old-fashioned Chocolate Fudge!

For years, my good friend, let’s call her Janis, makes a massive batch of this exact fudge every December and drops off little boxes for all her neighbors. And for years, I devoured my piece and swore it was the best fudge I had ever tasted—velvety smooth, intensely chocolatey, and perfectly set.

I finally—after much begging and pleading—got the secret recipe!

It’s the kind of reliable, foolproof recipe that has been perfected over time. It’s shockingly easy to make (no fussy sugar thermometers required!) but yields a texture and flavor that tastes like pure, comforting tradition. Seriously, the moment this fudge cools, you’ll fall in love.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 48 servings 1x
  • Category: Dessert

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 10-oz pkg mini marshmallows
  • 4 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 14-oz can evaporated milk
  • 1 Tbs vanilla
  • 2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Combine butter, sugar and evaporated milk in a thick saucepan and bring to a rolling boil. Cook while boiling for 6 minutes. Remove from heat and add in vanilla.
  • Add in your chocolate chips and marshmallows and nuts (if adding) and stir until marshmallows have melted and is smooth.
  • Pour into buttered 9×13 pan. Cover with saran wrap – directly having wrap on fudge and let stand for 24 hours.
  • Use a large, sharp knife to cut into squares, wiping chocolate from the knife blade (carefully) between cuts for a smooth cut.

Notes

So many options you can add to this – any flavor extract if you wanted it to have a hint (ie: mint, orange). You can add in nuts (any of your favorite), crushed candy cane, marshmallows (at end so they do not melt), pretzels, M&M’s, chopped up peanut butter cups, Reese’s pieces, toffee bits- you name it!
