This wassail recipe is incredibly easy to make, requiring just a few simple ingredients and minimal effort. Customize it to your taste preferences by adding or subtracting spices, fruits, or even a splash of alcohol. Ingredients
- 2 apples, cut up
- 8 cups apple cider
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1/3 cup lemon juice
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise pods
- 15 whole whole cloves, or 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp brown sugar, optional (but my wife added a LOT more to her cup)
- 1/8 tsp allspice
Instructions
- Add all ingredients, including the apples, to a large pot over medium low heat.
- Bring to a simmer. Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
- Pour wassail into a pitcher or large bowl using a strainer to remove the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and star anise pods.
- Ladle into mugs and enjoy!
Notes
- My wife added another 1 Tbsp of brown sugar to her cup but I enjoyed mine as is.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also make this in advance and store in the refrigerator until ready to heat and enjoy.
- To reheat: you can use the stovetop, microwave, or slow cooker to bring it back up to the temperature you desire.
